CSX Service Bulletin - CSX Updates Status of Irene Preparations AND FW: CSX Express: CSX Updates Status of Irene Preparations

August 26, 3:45 p.m. update -- As part of its broad-based efforts to help ensure the safety of employees and the public while protecting rail infrastructure, CSX is curtailing local train service along coastal North Carolina and Virginia and temporarily suspending activities at some of its intermodal and transload terminals. The company also is assessing needs in other areas that could potentially be impacted.

Actions include coordination with passenger and commuter agencies, and the relocation of locomotives and rail cars in the projected path. As part of its post-storm recovery, plans are in place to inspect infrastructure and facilities, and to make any necessary repairs.

The company continues to coordinate with customers on potential impacts to their facilities and on temporary changes, as required, in pickup and delivery schedules. CSX Police officers are on standby for response to affected areas, and occupational health personnel are prepared with emergency medical supplies.

CSX has made a $100,000 donation to the American Red Cross in advance of the storm's landfall to use where the greatest need exists or in future storms.

"The employees of CSX are hard at work preparing our transportation network for Irene," said Michael J. Ward, chairman, president and chief executive officer. "At the same time, they wish to offer a hand to our communities through the vital efforts of the Red Cross."

Future storm updates will be posted to CSX.com, ShipCSX, and the company intranet, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.

CSX Updates Status of Hurricane Irene Impact

August 27, 2011 2 p.m. -- As Hurricane Irene makes her way up the East Coast, CSX continues to make preparations ahead of the storm and, where safe to do so, is inspecting tracks and signals in the Mid-Atlantic coastal region.

Service to customers behind the hurricane is expected to resume as conditions allow.

Materials including rock ballast have been positioned so that they could quickly be used if any repairs are necessary, and locomotives, rail cars and crossing gates were secured ahead of the storm.

CSX continued to be in close contact with passenger and commuter agencies, and intermodal and transload terminals in the path of the hurricane temporarily suspended activities. CSX Police officers are on standby for response to affected areas, and occupational health personnel are prepared with emergency medical supplies.

The company's Customer Service Center will be coordinating with shippers and receivers on potential impacts to their facilities and on temporary changes, as required, in pickup and delivery schedules. Please contact the Customer Service Center via ShipCSX's Problem Resolution tool or by calling 1-877-SHIPCSX, prompts 5, then 6.

Future storm updates will be posted to CSX.com, ShipCSX, and the company intranet, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.

CSX Service Bulletin - CSX Updates Status of Storm Recovery

August 29, 3 p.m. -- Working as safely and rapidly as possible, CSX continues to recover from the impact of Hurricane Irene in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. The company's freight operations are moving steadily toward full recovery, and commuter train service in the Washington, D.C., and Boston areas was restored on Monday.

The company is continuing to work through power outages, localized flooding and debris on tracks, which is slowing some freight operations. Many signals and highway crossing warning devices are being powered temporarily by generators until commercial power can be restored. While flood waters are receding in many parts of the CSX network impacted by the storm, flooding in New York and New Jersey remains a significant obstacle. Crews and materials, including rock ballast, are on hand for necessary repairs as quickly as possible.

The company's Curtis Bay export pier in Baltimore resumed operations on Sunday, while export piers served by CSX at Newport News are expected to resume operations today or tomorrow. Eastbound intermodal traffic was held temporarily in Chicago until receivers are able to take deliveries. At this time, no intermodal trains are operating out of Boston; Kearny, Little Ferry, and North Bergen, N.J.; Philadelphia; or Springfield, Mass. However, intermodal terminals serving those locations are open and will resume rail service as tracks are restored. TRANSFLO terminals in the affected area are also back in operation.

CSX Service Bulletin - CSX Updates Status of Storm Recovery

August 30, 3 p.m. - Significant progress is being made in the restoration of freight rail service on storm-impacted areas of CSX.  Employees have been working around the clock to clear debris, inspect infrastructure, make repairs, reposition locomotives, and restore power.

The Mid-Atlantic region is moving closer to full service while more limited operations continue in the Northeast, largely due to washouts of track segments west of Selkirk, N.Y. and on the lines between Albany and New York City.

In some areas of the CSX network, generators are still being used to power signals and crossing devices until commercial electricity is restored.

Intermodal terminals are open across the CSX network, as are TRANSFLO facilities. However, intermodal service in the Northeast is still limited and delayed as trains are held up or take longer re-routes.

Service to the export piers in Newport News has resumed, and the company's Curtis Bay export pier re-opened Sunday.

Customers should contact the Customer Service Center via ShipCSX's Problem Resolution tool or by calling 1-XXX-XXXXXXX, prompts 5, then 6.  Intermodal customers should contact customer service at 1-XXX-XXX-XXXX or a sales representative.

Future storm updates will be posted to CSX.com, ShipCSX, and the company intranet, as well as on Facebook and Twitter.

CSX Updates Status of Storm Recovery

August 31, 6 p.m. - CSX has substantially cleared its track infrastructure affected by Hurricane Irene. However train service in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions remains slow as recovery efforts continue, commercial power is restored, and the substantial backlog of trains is worked down.

In addition to securing its entire rail network in the storm affected regions, CSX employees have removed hundreds of trees, recovered dozens of miles of flooded track and damaged roadbed, and deployed generator power to facilities, signals and crossing devices across these areas. The progress has been substantial, though significant work remains to be done. CSX greatly appreciates the ongoing patience and cooperation of its customers.
