CSX selling Ga., Ala. lines

 

CSX has begun the process of selling off rail lines, the latest chapter in the restructuring surrounding Precision Scheduled Railroading.

 

The company is in the process of selling more than 175 miles of rail routes in Georgia and Alabama, according to filings with the Surface Transportation Board.

 

HGS Railway Holdings Inc. of Colorado said in a March 29 filing that it plans to purchase 121 miles of track in Alabama and 55 miles of track in Georgia from CSX, and that the transaction could be completed soon.

CSX selling rail lines in Alabama, Georgia

 
CSX Corp. is in the process of selling 176 miles of rail lines in Alabama and Georgia to HGS Railway Holdings Inc., according to a notice filed with the Surface Transportation Board.

Once acquired, the rail lines will be operated by HGS subsidiaries HGS-ATN and HGS-FCR as Class III railroads.

Federal regulators put CSX rail sale on hold

 

 

The Surface Transportation Board, a federal regulatory agency, has stalled the sale of more than 175 miles of CSX rail in Georgia and Alabama to Colorado-based HGS Railway Holdings Inc.

 

HGS filed requests with STB Mar. 29 for approval to purchase 121 miles of track in Alabama and 55 miles of track in Georgia, lines it would lease to Alabama & Tennessee River Railway and Fulton County Railway LLC respectively. HGS claimed it had no plans to connect the lines and the lines were small enough to operate as Class III railroads.

 

STB, however, was not convinced. It has put the deal in abeyance.
