NJ Transit, PANYNJ receive $1.5 billion in federal Hurricane Sandy resiliency funding

New Jersey Transit and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) will receive nearly $1.5 billion in federal aid to repair and fortify infrastructure that was damaged during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, U.S. Sens. Robert Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) announced yesterday.

"The record storm surge flooded out train stations, destroyed rail yards and crippled our public transit system that millions rely on everyday to get around," Menendez said in a press release. "Sandy taught us that we must rebuild our infrastructure to withstand future disasters. This critical federal funding will help ensure the Garden State recovers from Sandy, stronger and better than before the storm."
