Same spot as a 2009 derailment on the same bridge. Either it wasn't repaired correctly or a different part of the bridge gave way. Doesn't say what railroad it was.

EDIT the NY daily news just says Conrail did not return the Daily News' request for comment.

Kevin, here in New Jersey most of the freight service after Conrail was divided up among CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern was kept together under the umbrella of Conrail Shared Assets. So it's not really the old Conrail, a fallen flag, but rather a consortium of both CSX and NS.

NTSB news release:

NTSB Go-Team Completes On-Scene Investigative Work

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

December 7, 2012

WASHINGTON - The National Transportation Safety Board’s go-team departed Paulsboro, NJ today after completing the necessary on-scene investigative work into the cause of the derailment of four Conrail tank cars into the Mantua Creek at about 7:05 am EST on November 30, 2012.

While members of the Unified Command, led by the United States Coast Guard, have been working to remediate the hazardous materials release caused by the derailment, NTSB investigators have collected hundreds of photos, videos, data, reports and records; completed mechanical inspections of the locomotives and cars that have been removed from the accident scene; interviewed Conrail employees, witnesses and first responders; and documented the accident site.

The NTSB will now begin to analyze the information gathered to date and investigators will return to the accident site to conduct follow up work. In addition, the team continues to receive updates, as requested, from the parties to the investigation, including the Federal Railroad Administration, Consolidated Rail Corporation, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, the United Transportation Union, and Trinity Tank Car.

A preliminary report on this investigation will be provided within the next 14 days.

Further investigative updates will be issued as events warrant. To be alerted to any updates or developments, please follow the NTSB on Twitter at twitter.com/ntsb.
