CUSTOMER SERVICE BULLETIN - Tropical Storm Isaac -- Monday Noon Update

Released: August 27, 2012

CSX is assessing impacts from Tropical Storm Isaac in Florida, and continues preparations as it approaches the Gulf Coast. Initial inspections along the path of the storm by CSX crews indicate relatively minor impacts to the railroad's South Florida operations.

With the storm approaching New Orleans and Mobile, the New Orleans Levy Board is closing flood gates at noon today, which will prevent rail movements and interchanges by all railroads in New Orleans. Traffic destined to New Orleans, Mobile and Pensacola is being held until the storm passes and routes reopen. However, where possible, CSX is moving traffic via alternate routes to reach its destination.

CSX continues to make preparations to protect employees, customers, stakeholders and infrastructure. While the exact track of the storm remains uncertain, CSX made a contribution to the American Red Cross for use in storm preparations.

Customers with shipments scheduled to travel in or through these storm impacted areas can expect delays of up to 72 hours.

CUSTOMER SERVICE BULLETIN - Tropical Storm Isaac - Tuesday Noon Update

CSX rail service to South Florida has resumed; however, customers with freight moving through South Florida can expect delays for the next 24 hours as traffic backlog is cleared.

As Tropical Storm Isaac continues toward the New Orleans area, service in this area is curtailed until the storm passes and tracks are inspected, repaired and reopened.  Significant flooding is expected in the low-lying areas along the Gulf Coast and the crews have staged ballast and work equipment to expedite service restoration.  Customers with shipments scheduled to travel in or through the Gulf region can expect delays of up to 72 hours.

CSX will update you as Isaac moves through the area, and assessments and restoration plans are complete.

CSX CUSTOMER SERVICE BULLETIN - Isaac Update Friday Noon

In the Gulf Coast region, CSX continues to mobilize crews and phase in operations where it is safe to do so.

While inspections continue, most of the company's rail infrastructure appears to be largely intact, including the Gentilly Yard in New Orleans. However, about a 15-mile stretch of the line east of New Orleans will require restoration over the next several weeks. There are no customers located on this stretch, but it is a key corridor for shipments interchanged with western carriers. As it has done in the past, CSX is working with other railroads to re-route traffic and serve customers' needs in this region.

Due to the overall situation in the region, customers can expect delays of 72 hours or more for some shipments as operations are restored, alternative routes are used, and traffic flows normalize.

CSX will update you as the storm passes through the area, and restoration plans are complete.

CSX thanks customers and other stakeholders for their continued patience and support as we expedite service as safely and swiftly as possible.

CXS CUSTOMER SERVICE BULLETIN - Isaac Update - 9/5

Working with connecting rail carriers, CSX continues to temporarily adjust its network plan to redirect rail traffic around the Gulf Coast line that was impacted by Hurricane Isaac last week.

CSX has established temporary interchanges at Memphis, Tenn., and Birmingham, Ala., for rail traffic that normally operates over the New Orleans gateway. As previously communicated, the changed routes, coupled with backlogged traffic that was halted during Isaac's landfall, could lead to delays of 72 hours or more for shipments that would normally operate over the New Orleans gateway and the Gulf line.

CSX's Gentilly Yard at New Orleans was not damaged significantly and remains operational, along with the intermodal terminal.

Inspections following the storm revealed significant damage from flooding and debris on a 15-mile stretch of the line east of New Orleans.  This could take several weeks to repair.  Local service has been maintained to customers located along the line.

CSX thanks its customers and connecting railroads for their patience and support as the company expedites service as safely and swiftly as possible.

CSX CUSTOMER SERVICE BULLETIN - New Orleans Gateway Re-Opens - 9/28

Repairs are progressing on a 15-mile segment of CSX's Gulf Coast line east of New Orleans that was damaged by Hurricane Isaac's landfall on August 29.

Since the storm's landfall, CSX temporarily adjusted its network plan to redirect trains to gateways at Memphis, Tenn., and Birmingham, Ala. Starting Saturday morning, CSX will resume taking trains at its New Orleans gateway and expects all traffic to be normalized by Monday morning.

Some delays may continue until traffic is normalized.

While CSX's Gentilly Yard at New Orleans was not significantly affected, the storm damaged a line segment between Rigolets, La., and Pass Christian, Miss.

CSX thanks its customers and connecting railroads for their patience and support as repairs took place.

So if the Sunset Limited were running where it was supposed to have been running since the Katrina repairs, it would have been out for a month following Isaac.
