Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini is getting loud about “demanding” the reinstatement of VIA Rail Train 651 – and says he doesn’t plan on stopping until the train is back on the tracks for area residents and commuters.

     Report shows interest for return of Via Rail commuter link between Kingston and Toronto  

 
A rally that was scheduled Friday in Cobourg, Ont., to show support for the return of Via Rail commuter train service from Toronto to Kingston has been postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The “Via Day of Action” was to be held Friday afternoon at the Via station in Cobourg, urging the company to restore Train 651 which served the Toronto to Kingston corridor. The route — which picked up commuters in Cobourg around 7 a.m. on weekdays — was suspended during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic due to a drop in ridership.

Local politicians are inviting the public to join them on Saturday in an effort to pressure Via Rail and the federal government to reinstate a popular commuter train.

   VIA Rail service set to return as GO Train exits London, Ont.      

 

 

 

One day after VIA Rail revealed that daily service between London and Toronto is set to return, it was announced GO Train service between the two cities will end later this year.

VIA Rail finally is reinstating the London trains lost during the Pandemic.

Popular VIA Rail commuter trains are officially back on track.

 

Trains 82 and 83, to and from London and Toronto are set to resume on Oct. 24. Passengers are able to start booking their trips now.

  Northumberland County warden applauds return of VIA Rail morning train service    

 

VIA Rail Canada’s morning train service through Northumberland County is back on the rails and while it’s welcome news, warden Brian Ostrander hopes there’s more to come to improve transportation options for residents here and beyond the county’s borders.
