WNYC, 2/25/14:

Photos That Will Make You Want To Ride The PATH Train

The Port Authority has opened a new platform at its World Trade Center station, giving commuters a glimpse of a transportation hub that's been in the works for years.

More here. It's going to take a lot more than photos to make me want to ride the PATH train. But it's a necessary evil we endure.

Daily News editorial, 2/27/14:

They lost their marbles

New York’s monument to unconscionable waste has opened in the Port Authority’s lavish, extravagant, foolish and, very surely, dangerous World Trade Center PATH station.

And I do think the newspaper has quite a few valid points. Slippery floors are no match for people running for trains, especially if their shoes are wet from the weather outside. And yes it is wasteful spending of federal money that could have gone towards building new lines (maybe that extension to the Newark Liberty International Airport rail station?) or increasing capacity on the existing ones. The Port Authority is no stranger to overbuilt stations --- witness the huge structures at the AirTrain monorail stations at the same airport.

PANYNJ news release:

MEDIA ADVISORY - PORT AUTHORITY PREPARED TO OPEN PLATFORM B FOR PATH CUSTOMERS AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER

Date: May 05, 2015

Agency marks another milestone for the WTC Transportation Hub

On Thursday, May 7, the Port Authority will open Platform B for the approximately 50,000 average weekday PATH riders at the World Trade Center Transportation Hub. This will mark another milestone in the construction of the Hub with the opening of a second new platform that will serve the Newark to World Trade Center line.

PATH riders who currently use Platform C for Newark and Journal Square service will now utilize the newly completed Platform B featuring new lighting, speakers, illuminated signs and elevators. To date, the Port Authority has opened Platform A as well as the West Concourse linking the WTC Transportation Hub and Brookfield Place. In the coming weeks, the agency will continue to open significant portions of the Hub, providing customers with additional access points that will improve transportation connections for those who live, work and visit Lower Manhattan.

For up-to-date service information, riders are encouraged to follow PATH Rail System on Twitter at www.twitter.com/PATHTrain or text their origin and destination to 266266. Riders also can sign up for PATHAlerts at www.PATHAlerts.com, which provides up to the minute bulletins on PATH service changes.
