WHYY-TV/Newsworks:

Passage of severe weather has lead to the temporary closure of the Keystone Service route between Harrisburg and Philadelphia. Several large trees have fallen onto the tracks and have also damaged the overhead electrical system that powers the trains.

Paoli line knocked out of service until Thursday


Downed trees have shut down SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale rail line until Thursday morning as the region wrestles with a new round of roadway flooding from rain-swollen waterways.

Amtrak Tweet, Thursday 9/8/11 2:00 PM:

Limited service between HAR & PHL for the rest of today, Sept. 8th, due to severe flooding. Amtrak regrets any inconvenience.

And then about 15 minutes later:

Suspended service between HAR & LNC, limited service LNC-PHL-NYP due to severe flooding. Amtrak sincerely regrets the inconvenience.

Due to flood conditions in the Harrisburg, Penn., area, Amtrak will operate limited Keystone Service between New York/Philadelphia and Lancaster, Penn., for the remainder of today, Sept. 8. In addition, Amtrak has suspended all service between Harrisburg, Penn., and Lancaster, Penn.

No alternate transportation is available between Harrisburg, Penn., and Lancaster, Penn.

Passengers who have paid for travel on canceled trains can contact Amtrak to receive refunds without fee or penalty or can rebook for future travel. If tickets have not yet been printed, the refund/rebook can be done on http://www.Amtrak.com/ or the free Amtrak iPhone “app.”

Keystone Service truncated at Lancaster, Penn.
No service west of Lancaster to Harrisburg or Pittsburgh on Friday


Flooding conditions west of Lancaster, Penn., have led Amtrak to reduce the number Keystone Service trains and operate only between Lancaster and New York City, via Philadelphia, on Friday, September 9.

No service will be operated from Lancaster west to Harrisburg. Also canceled is Friday's Pennsylvanian (Trains 42 & 43) from Pittsburgh to New York City, via Harrisburg and Philadelphia.

I'm sure the fact they run push-pull electric hauled (or shoved) trains is a plus for being able to turn the trains there in Lancaster. I don't think there's a nearby place they could wye the Keystone consists, although I suppose there are places they could have run the engine around to the opposite end.
