To borrow some of Bill Magee's statistical interests, I've looked at some interesting facts regarding the 28 people who were involved in our recent Fest. Percentages have been rounded to the nearest whole number. Of our 28 people: 1) 25, or 89%, were actually in California at some time. 3, or 11%, never made it to California but participated by riding long distance trains with us. 2) 22, or 79%, were male. 6, or 21%, were female. In what is considered primarily a male-dominated hobby, I am proud that this gap continues to close as we tour the country each July. 3) 6-letter last names were the most common, at 9, or 32%. That was closely followed by 7-letter last names, at 8 (29%). Next was 5-letter last names at 5 (18%), and then those with 8 or more letters in their last names (4, or 14%). Finally, we had two people with 4-letter last names, at 7%. 4) It's no surprise that the winning home state was California, from where 11 particpants, or 39%, hailed. New Jersey was next at 5 people (18%). Ohio and Massachusetts each had two people (7%). States with lone representatives (each 4% of the total) were Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, Hawaii, and Texas.
