UP Customer News:

Major Winter Storm Expected to Impact Rail Operations

Posted Date: February 1, 2016

To Our Customers,

Today through Wednesday, much of the western United States is under storm watches and warnings. A foot or more of snow is predicted for many areas, including; mountain areas in Southern California, New Mexico and Colorado; northwest and north-central Kansas; southern and northeast Nebraska; and western and northern Iowa. More than five inches of snow is expected in areas ranging from: southern Utah; mountainous areas of Arizona; the plains of Colorado; southeast Wyoming; western Nebraska; western, central and northern Iowa; southern Minnesota; and most of Wisconsin. The major cities anticipating at least six inches of snowfall are Flagstaff, Ariz., Denver, Omaha, Neb., Des Moines, Iowa, and Green Bay, Wis.

In addition to predictions of heavy snowfall across much of our network, strong winds in eastern Colorado, western Kansas, Nebraska, western and central Iowa and southern Minnesota may result in blizzard or near-blizzard conditions. The blizzard conditions are primarily expected from late Monday night through Tuesday evening.

Union Pacific's winter weather command centers are actively monitoring weather conditions. Crews and resources are being deployed across the potential impact areas so that issues can be addressed as quickly and safely as possible. We will keep customers updated as conditions warrant. Customers in the affected areas should anticipate some slowdowns this week.

Thank you for your business. Please contact the National Customer Service Center or your Union Pacific representative with any questions.
