We got to Richmond just about on time, prepared for at least a 4-1/2 hour layover. Some walked over to the nearby supermarket to get snacks. Others found a Mexican restaurant. All 8 of us eventually ended up at Anthony & George's Steakhouse, a family restaurant right next to the station. They were extremely friendly and efficient, and they gave us a good place to sit and talk and stay cool even after we were finished eating.

Back at the station we tracked progress of our train, which we knew by now was significantly delayed. It turns out all the southbound trains around this time were delayed by wire problems on the Northeast Corridor.

We did get to watch several trains call there, including 95, 90, 66, and the southbound Auto Train. 91 (the Silver Star) was behind ours, so we didn't see that one.

Unfortunately it appears that the curse of OTOL has taken another. We enjoyed the Richmond stopover during ACRF 2013 and much of that enjoyment was the off-hours meal (that we stretched out to match our long layover) at Anthony's & George's Steakhouse. Well their website hasn't worked for a while, and now from reports in more than one social media site including Facebook, Yelp, and Trip Advisor, it appears that they have indeed closed down earlier this year. I can surmise from what I've seen online that they had to sell out to the owners of the Richmond Amtrak station parking lot, which is sorely in need of expansion. A shame, because they were really nice people, and we weren't the only ones they have let sit there to while away a long train layover.
