Two official Amtrak trips are planned for NYRF 2018 -- both on Saturday.  This was done intentionally since Amtrak is usually late in adjusting its reservations calendars for the occurrence of holidays, whereby a Sunday schedule is observed on Monday, and a Saturday schedule is observed on Sunday. Saturday is Saturday regardless.  The two trips include one on the Empire Corridor from New York to Croton-Harmon and the other returning from New Rochelle to New York City after dinner.  Both are relatively short trips.  Is Business Class worth it?  Chances are, the free soft drink offered to Business Class passengers won't be attainable on either trip since café car attendants tend to open late after departure from New York, or close early coming into New York.  Whether we have 8, 10, 12, or 20 people involved we all won't be sitting together anyhow.  So I leave this question up to you, but my gut says it probably doesn't really matter much.

I am considering Business Class for 165, but I am not sure yet.

EDIT:  I just booked Business for both.

Coach on both of my Fest-trips, and on my getting to the Fest trip (#162).  Particularly if Saver fares are offered, the up-charge for Business is steep.

So far as it stands now, I splurged for Business Class on both 283 and 165.  The nice bonus offered when paying for Business Class trips, albeit short ones, ends up being awarded 2.5 X the dollar amount spent in Tier Qualifying Points.  For example, an AAA fare of $42.40 in Business Class would yield me 106 Tier Qualifying Points.

I honestly have not been watching every day, but Amtrak has now loaded the proper schedules in its inventory for the MLK weekend.  That is,  Saturday schedule for Saturday and Sunday, and Sunday schedule for Monday.

Coach for my fest trips - could not justify the upcharge vs. "Saver" fares (almost 3x overall).   Might be different if I was focused on collecting points.

1/13/18

160  WAS - NWK

283   NYP - CRT

165  NRO - WAS
