U.S. Department of Transportation also Announces $15 Million to Pave the Way for a Houston – Dallas-Fort Worth High-Speed Passenger Rail Corridor

In addition, the U.S. Department of Transportation today announced a $15 million high-speed rail grant for Texas that will jumpstart engineering and environmental work on a high-speed rail corridor linking two of the largest metro areas in the U.S., Dallas-Fort Worth to Houston. The State of Texas is one of 32 states across the country currently laying the foundation for future high-speed rail service that will connect Americans more quickly, efficiently and safely than ever before.

Bullet trains from Dallas Fort Worth to Houston: Once riders arrive, they'll need a car - not enough mass transit here

If high-speed rail comes to North Texas by 2020, the bullet trains initially will rely on the area’s road system - not public transportation - to get most of its riders from the end of the line to their final destination, an official said.

Group aims to raise $10 billion for high-speed rail in Texas

They travel more than 200 mph, and during 48 years of operation in Japan, they have never been involved in a fatal crash.

They are bullet trains, a form of transportation many Texans thought they'd never see -- unless they were on vacation in Asia or Europe. But rail advocates say a proposal to build a high-speed line connecting Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston may happen a lot sooner than many residents think -- possibly by 2020.

U.S. transportation secretary gives Dallas-to-Houston high-speed rail yet another push

During a speech in San Antonio Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx hopped all aboard a most familiar subject: a high-speed rail line linking Dallas-Fort Worth to Houston, which, if nothing else, will allow Dallas residents the chance to zip south for a decent deli at 200 miles per hour.

“Today, I’m proud to say that the Federal Railroad Administration, TxDOT and the Texas Central Railway have come to an agreement to prepare two environmental studies that will lay the groundwork for high-speed rail between Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston,” Foxx said ……..

DFW To Houston High-Speed Rail Plan Moving Forward

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – Dallas to Houston in 90 minutes – it’s a proposed high-speed rail line that’s moving closer to reality.
Texas Central High-Speed Railway, a private company, along with the Federal Railroad Administration will conduct an environmental impact study of a high-speed rail line between the two major Texas cities.
A second environmental impact study will look at extending the high-speed rail line from Dallas to Fort Worth, with a stop in Arlington.

Bullet train developers eye station sites in Fort Worth, Arlington, Dallas and Houston

A private company that wants to build 220 mph bullet trains in Texas is committed to stopping in downtown Dallas, and is looking at sites near Union Station, the state’s new high-speed rail commission chairman said Wednesday.

Texas Mayors announce support for HSR line

The mayors of Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston voiced their support this morning for the proposed high-speed rail line from North Texas to Houston.

Sure sounds great, but file this one under the believe-it-when-you-see-it category. We've had false hopes before with the Texas Triangle and Texas T-Bone and other high speed proposals for this state. The story is here.

As has been the case so many times elsewhere, it is doubtful that there will be high speed rail at the outset when there is currently NO conventional Amtrak service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston (save for an overnight connection one can make thru San Antonio three days a week).
