NYCT news release, 4/24:
Free Transfer Now Available for Customers Impacted by Weeknight and Weekend Work on the L LineStarting tonight, MTA New York City Transit will provide a free MetroCard transfer from the Broadway G Line to the Lorimer St J LineM Line station for the time periods when the L Line is not running from Brooklyn to Manhattan (weeknights until 5/22 and weekends until 5/18). The free transfer will provide L Line line customers with an additional option to and from Manhattan while NYC Transit personnel continue construction work on the L Line Line and comes as a result of a request from State Senator Martin Dilan, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Assembly Member Joseph Lentol, Assembly Member Maritza Davila, and Councilman Stephen Levin. The free transfer will only be available during the time periods that service on the L Line is suspended.
Weekend and weeknight maintenance work along the L Line Line is vital to keep the line in a state of good repair in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service. NYC Transit workers are performing track maintenance and replacement of components, inspection and servicing of fire safety systems, water remediation, pump room improvements, and asbestos abatement. During weeknights until May 22 (Tuesday-Friday between 12:01 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.) and weekends until May 18 (from 12:01 a.m. Saturday until 5:00 a.m. Monday), the following alternate operations are in effect:
• The L Line will operate normally between Lorimer St and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy;
• A free shuttle bus will operate from the Lorimer St L Line station to the Marcy Av J LineM Line station, making stops at Bedford Av L Line station and;
• Extra M14 service will be added from 8 Av to 1 Av in Manhattan.
For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, customers should also consider using the A Line or J Line via a free transfer at Broadway Junction.
