NS Intermodal Service Alert:

Shipment Embargo Hurricane Irma

Sep 06, 2017

Hurricane Irma continues to move through the Caribbean and is expected to impact the Southeast region of the United States this weekend. Weather advisories and mandatory evacuations have been issued based on Irma’s forecasted path and strong winds, heavy rainfall and potential flooding is expected in many areas.

Due to the severity of the hurricane, the Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) has advised they will cease train operations beginning Thursday, September 7th.  In response to FEC’s closure, effective 6:00pm EDT today, Wednesday September 6th, Norfolk Southern will close all origin facility gates for shipments billed for interchange with the FECR, with the exception of shipments ingating Atlanta. The Atlanta gate will close to FECR billed shipments at 9:00pm EDT today.

All shipments ingated after the aforementioned gate closures will remain at the origin terminals and will not be loaded until the rail routes are deemed safe for movement. We will not be able to unload and return shipments once they have been loaded.  Norfolk Southern is monitoring the storm closely and will take precautions to protect employees, track, and shipments. We will provide additional updates as the storm progresses.

Please contact Intermodal Customer Service at 800-497-2919 for any additional information or logon to accessNS for shipment updates.
