Alert #1: Icy Road Conditions Impacting METRO Services

 

 

METRO riders should expect delays as roads continue to deteriorate due to the winter storm impacting the Greater Houston area. METRO is adding midday Park & Ride services on some routes to help patrons who want to make earlier return trips starting with the Cypress 217.  All METRO HOV/ HOT lanes are currently closed.
 
METROLift services are operating as normal.  Riders are encouraged not to travel unless absolutely necessary and can expect delays as drivers are exercising extreme caution. 
 
Riders are asked to monitor METRO Twitter and Facebook pages for timely information regarding transit service.  METRO also offers real-time information through its service alerts system

Alert #2: Midday Park & Ride Service Added to Accommodate Riders

 

 

METRO is adding more midday Park & Ride services to help riders who want to make earlier return trips. The routes listed below will begin picking up for return trips at Noon and will run about every 30 minutes.

 

Park & Ride Routes with Added Midday Service

108, 170, 212, 217, 292, 297, 298 

 

Additionally, all METRO HOV/ HOT lanes remain closed. Meanwhile, METRORail riders should expect delays due to the weather conditions.  METROLift services continue to operate as normal.  However, riders are encouraged not to travel unless absolutely necessary and can expect delays as drivers are exercising extreme caution.

Alert #3: METRO Limiting Afternoon/Evening Service Due to Winter Storm

 

METRO will be curtailing local bus route service this afternoon as officials continue to advise everyone to stay off the roads due to dangerous, icy conditions.  Beginning at 2 p.m. today, frequent routes will run every 30 minutes.  Other routes will run approximately every hour.  METRORail is also experiencing delays as a result of the winter storm.  There are several bus shuttles on portions of the Green and Purple Lines.   

 

  

HOV/HOT Lanes remain closed and are expected to be closed through tomorrow morning.  Park & Ride buses will be traveling the main lanes, so expect delays.

 

 

The safety of our passengers and employees is METRO's number one priority.  Should it become necessary, METRO will suspend service throughout the system.

 

Riders are asked to monitor METRO Twitter and Facebook pages for timely information regarding transit service.  METRO also offers real-time information through its service alerts system

 Please also note the following:

  • METRO’s T.R.I.P. app will not be an accurate source of “Next Bus” arrival during times of schedule fluctuation. 

  • You may experience delays when calling METRO Customer Service at 713-635-4000 during this period.

  • METRO advises riders to monitor local media, and the National Weather Service for weather updates. 

  • Current roadway conditions are available on TranStar’s Real-Time Traffic Map

Sharing resources with METRO to serve the area are: Harris CountyCity of Houston and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) with websites providing information about safety, weather, traffic and more during emergencies.

Alert #4: Dangerous Road Conditions Force Suspension of Evening METRO Bus Service


METRO is suspending all bus services beginning at 5:30 p.m. today until further notice due to dangerous road conditions. As ice accumulates on several area roadways, it is becoming more difficult to provide services. Safety is our top priority for passengers and employees, and we will resume services only when it is safe to do so.

 

Given the current weather conditions on the Northside,  service along the following routes has already been suspended.  

 

44 Acres Homes

85 Antoine/ Washington

86 FM 1960/ Imperial Valley 

99 Ella/ FM 1960

 

Riders who use those routes should contact customer care at 713-635-4000 for alternative routing information or rides home. 

 

METRORail service will continue to operate. However, riders should expect delays.  METROLift continues to operate but only for trips that are absolutely necessary. Commuters be advised, HOV/ HOT lanes will remain closed through Wednesday morning.   The METRO RideStore is closed until further notice.

Alert #5: METRO Bus Service to Remain Suspended Through Wednesday Morning


Hazardous road conditions are forcing METRO bus services to remain suspended through the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018. With overnight temperatures expected to stay well below freezing, driving conditions will continue to be treacherous.  

 

Park & Ride routes, METRO HOV/ HOT lanes and the METRO RideStores will all be closed the entire day. With safety in mind for our passengers and employees, METRO will only resume local bus service Wednesday afternoon when road conditions improve.  

 

METRORail service will continue to operate, but riders should expect delays.  

 

All scheduled METROLift trips for Wednesday will be canceled. Once conditions are deemed safe and METROLift services start, customers can call in for same day transportation for essential trips.  

 

Riders are asked to monitor METRO Twitter and Facebook pages for timely information regarding transit service.  METRO also offers real-time information through its service alerts system

 

Due to the inclement weather, meetings for METRO's Administrative, Public Safety, Customer Service & Operations and Capital & Strategic Planning committees will be rescheduled to next week.

Alert #6: Limited METROLift Service to Resume


 

METROLift service will be available for essential trips only starting at noon today. Due to uncertain road conditions, it is still possible METROLift will not be able to reach certain areas to pick up patrons.  Expect some delays as drivers exercise extreme caution. Customers should call 713-225-6716 to schedule trips. Requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

 

Meanwhile, METRO operations teams are evaluating road conditions to determine which local bus routes can safely resume service later today. We will share that information with the public as soon as it is available.  

 

All three METRORail lines are operating, but riders should expect delays. 

 

Park & Ride routes, METRO HOV/ HOT lanes and the METRO RideStores will remain closed until Thursday morning.

Alert #9: Back to Normal Service Tomorrow


Normal METRO Operations Resume Thursday Morning

METRO customers can plan to take their normal bus routes Thursday morning.  All local bus routes will operate as well as METRO Park & RideRiders should expect some detours and delays in the event ice remains on some roads. Commuters can also plan to use HOV/ HOT lanes as they will also reopen.  All three METRORail lines will continue operations. 

 

METROLift customers can book trips as normal online through MACS-WEB or by calling 713-225-6716. As temperatures remain low, METROLift continues to assist the City of Houston helping move people to warming centers.  Tuesday evening METROLift helped transport 270 people. 

 

METRO's RideStores will reopen and follow normal business hours tomorrow. 

 

Riders are encouraged to monitor METRO's Twitter and Facebook pages for timely information regarding transit. METRO also offers real-time information through its service alerts system.
