MTA Receives $33.2MM for Westchester Yard
NEW YORK CITY – The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced it has received $33.2 million in federal funding.
The grant comes from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) via its Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-saving Transportation (PROTECT). These funds will go toward strengthening the Westchester Train Yard located on the 6 line. The yard is in a low-lying area that is prone to flooding during heavy rainfall.
The MTA reports the 6 line carried around 140 million passengers in 2023, which is more than the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North combined. The Westchester yard houses 49 trains that operate on that line.
