It was pointed out to me that the CTA Visitors Pass (unlike in other cities) is good for increments of 24 hours. If we get a one-day Visitors Pass for $5, it is good for 24 hours from the time of first use. Since we will be in Chicago approximately 24 hours, if we make our first use anytime after 8:30 AM on our date of arrival (Friday), the same pass should still be valid for the Saturday morning ride from your hotel to Union Station.

So the Visitors Pass is definitely the most cost effective means of paying your transit fares on the CTA during our time there. I have updated my Chicago costs page accordingly.
