Vermonter / Ethan Allen Express  -- Effective August 27, 2015:   Features the new Vermonter station stop at Holyoke, MA.  No further changes to Ethan Allen.  Summer weekend operating pattern continues until end of Saratoga racing season.

Northeast Corridor schedules below effective August 31, 2015:

Northeast Corridor (New York-Washington) -- Minor changes, including the elongated schedules between Baltimore and Washington for trackwork in Maryland.  Some train number changes to be detailed later.

Northeast Corridor (New England) -- Minor changes, including some train number changes to be detailed later, and it also shows the substitute bus service taking place of some Shuttles between Springfield and New Haven.

Northeast Corridor (Virginia) -- Here are the changes in detail involving Virginia trains:

  • As mentioned in another thread, the weekday Norfolk departure is moving approximately 1 hour later from 174 to 84. The timeslots and destinations of 174 and 84 north of Richmond are not changing.  Weekend Norfolk departure remains on Train 88.
  • Train 194, the weekend Newport News morning departure, will now run on Sundays only.  Saturdays, the train number changes to 96.  The difference between 194 and 96 is that the latter will run 20 minutes later between Washington and Boston.

Besides the aforementioned Regional changes in Virginia, there will also be an extra Saturday-only Acela round trip between New York and Boston.   A new Acela Express 2295 will leave Boston and run about 25-30 minutes ahead of existing train 2251.  It will terminate in New York City.  The corresponding northbound run will be accomplished by extending current Washington-New York Acela Express 2216 (also Saturday only) beyond New York to Boston, and renaming it 2260

There was a Regional in the way of new 2260 in New England, namely the Saturday version of 194.  And now you know why the above happened, its running 20 minutes later and being renamed 96.  Interesting stuff and fun to figure out.

And the funny thing about this is that I hadn't had time to study the new timetables before my current trip, and just happen to be reserved on today's 194 and 2216, both of which by this time next Saturday will be 96 and 2260 respectively.  So I'll be on the last Saturday trips of each.

Amtrak also reissued its timetable for Atlantic Coast Service, which includes Auto Train, Silver Star, Silver Meteor, Palmetto, Carolinian, and Piedmont, effective August 31, 2015.  This timetable contains all of them.
