Marie and I made a really quick connection at New York Penn on Saturday night. The Adirondack arrived from Poughkeepsie at 8:55pm. We were on the 9:01pm NJ Transit NEC departure back to Hamilton. That included saying goodbye to Bill and a quick pit stop (very, very quick - I ran across the station, much to Bill's amusement). We were on the platform by 9:00pm. All NJT trains leave Penn one minute after the published time (9:01 actually means 9:02), so I had an extra minute cushion. A seven minute connection: that is lots of time.
Heading home Sunday, I was able to beat the freeze-up and get home from Hamilton with the roads still just wet. The temperature was right at 32 degrees all the way down I-295. I was very, very happy about that. I've had enough white-knuckle rides on icy roads in my time. They are not fun.
