I awoke to this news, and have confirmed that my coworkers who pass through Hoboken Terminal are accounted for. I work 19 blocks from that location.

As with any such incident, the death and injured tolls will vary by story as news continues to break. The train was #1614, which had come from Spring Valley, NY over the Pascack Valley Line.

From CNN, 9/29/16:

Hoboken train crash: 1 dead, 75 injured

A New Jersey Transit train plowed through a major station in Hoboken during Thursday morning's rush-hour commute, killing at least one person and injuring 75 others, some seriously, local officials said.

HOBOKEN, N.J. — A New Jersey Transit train crashed into the Hoboken station Thursday morning killing at least one, injuring more than 100 and causing massive damage, according to NJ Advance Media reports.

A spokeswoman for NJ Transit said train No. 1614 crashed into the Hoboken train station around 8:45 a.m. It left Spring Valley, N.Y., at 7:23 a.m. Preliminary indications are that operator error is to blame.

All PATH service and all NJ Transit rail service is suspended into and out of Hoboken, with passengers being advised to use light rail. For the full story, click here.

Fox News, 9/29/16:

At least 1 dead, scores hurt after train crash at Hoboken, NJ station

The woman who died appeared to be standing on a nearby platform before the crash, a law enforcement source told Fox News, adding that the engineer was pulled from the train "semi-conscious." Video:  NTSB to investigate NJ Train Crash

HOBOKEN, N.J. (AP) -- A crowded rush-hour commuter train crashed through a barrier at the busy Hoboken station and lurched across the waiting area Thursday morning, killing at least one person and injuring more than 100 others in a tangle of broken concrete, twisted metal and dangling cables, authorities said.

People pulled concrete off bleeding victims and passengers kicked out windows and crawled out amid crying and screaming after the arriving New Jersey Transit train ran off the end of its track. It apparently knocked out pillars as it ground to a halt in a covered waiting area, collapsing a section of the roof onto the first car.

Bloomberg, 9/29/16 article contains a quote by a very "famous" individual:

Hoboken Crash Tests a Railroad Beset by N.J. Fiscal Crisis

“The biggest challenge New Jersey Transit has is a predictable set of financial parameters,” Jishnu Mukerji, a member of the New Jersey Association of Railroad Passengers board of directors, said by telephone. “They’re stuck in a bad place. They don’t have any money. Trenton has never given them the operating budget they need.”
