Since I will be traveling from Florida, I pretty much know it will be colder in the DC area than at home.

From accuweather.com, I got the following for the 16th to the 19th in DC (the 18th looks pretty much like Orlando today):

16

Cloudy
39° Lo 28°
Hist. Avg. 43° Lo 28°

17

Plenty of sunshine
43° Lo 39°
Hist. Avg. 43° Lo 28°

18

Partly sunny
50° Lo 38°
Hist. Avg. 43° Lo 28°

19

Rain tapering off
48° Lo 38°
Hist. Avg. 43° Lo 28°

Let's hope the 10-day forcast holds.  Having temps at or above average would be great, espially considering the weather this morning. (4 degrees with a wind-chill advisory; wind chill about -10!)  The trend has to be for warmer weather.

Another look at Sunday chat time should give us a reasonably reliable look; meterologists acknowlege 10-day forcasts for this area are often inaccurate due to the surrounding geography.

Of course anything can happen on the Fest weekend, but if history repeats itself, the MetroFest 2001 event 14 years ago had unseasonably warm weather into the upper 40's and 50's and sunny days.

Steve,

i empathize with you.  January 1970 (my first winter in Chicago) was extremely cold.  Meigs Field hisrtorical data shows 1/7/70 ranging from 3.9 to -5.1 degrees; 1/8/70 1.0 to -2.0.  The wind chill on 1/7 was -42.

We had a "heat wave" on 1/9 when it reached high of 16 - still below the average low of 19!

Steve, I cannot relate to a Chicago winter, but I feel for you.  I thought this morning was pretty cold in Orlando at 37, with windchill of 30.  So far the forecast for the fest looks as good as one could expect..... I hope it remains that way.

You could head west to Bartlett.  My wife called her dad; -14 this morning!  Only -1 forcast tonight and -8 tomorrow night with high winds both nights!

Yes, Penny is shivering inside her condo where it is 64 degrees.  Do not ask how many layers I am wearing.  (I avoid turning on the heat unless it is below 61 inside)
