Anchorage (AK) Daily News, 1/28:

Alaska Railroad announces midweek winter trains, discounted fares for March

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska Railroad is launching special midweek Aurora Winter Train departures along with offering discounted fares throughout March. With northbound trains departing Anchorage on Tuesday, March 11 and 18, and southbound trains departing Fairbanks on Wednesday, March 12 and 19, these trains conveniently coincide with most Alaska schools’ spring breaks, providing both residents and visitors the opportunity to ride the budget-friendly rails.

During March, the special roundtrip fare is only $215 between Anchorage and Fairbanks. For students, the price is reduced to $178 for a roundtrip fare; and children ages two to 11 are $108. Infants under age two who require a seat will need to purchase a child’s ticket for $108; however, there is no fee for children ages zero to 23 months who are considered “infant in lap.” This offer is extended throughout the month of March and is not confined only to legs on the new midweek trains.
