Flooding in Virginia Curtails Some Amtrak Service
Morning trains to and from Richmond/Newport News canceled this Friday, passengers urged to check train status for Friday afternoon


September 8, 2011
11:00 p.m. EDT

CSX has informed Amtrak of a track closure between Lorton and Alexandria, Va., due to flooding rains. As a result, Amtrak has canceled morning trains to and from Washington and Richmond/Newport News, Va., on Friday, September 9.

Passengers with travel plans through this area later in the day on Friday are urged to check train status using http://www.Amtrak.com/ , visiting http://www.Amtrak.com/alerts , calling 800-USA-RAIL or viewing postings on http://www.Facebook.com/Amtrak .

Still scheduled to operate on Friday is Amtrak Virginia Northeast Regional service (Trains 171 & 176) to and from Lynchburg, the Crescent (Trains 19 & 20) to and from New York and New Orleans via Lynchburg, the Cardinal (Trains 50 & 51) to and from Chicago and New York via Charlottesville, Va., and the Auto Train (Trains 52 & 53) to and from Sanford, Fla., and Lorton.

CSX has informed Amtrak of a track closure between Lorton and Alexandria, Va. due to flooding rains. As a result, Amtrak has canceled all trains to and from Washington and Richmond/Newport News, Va., on Friday, September 9.

Still scheduled to operate on Friday is Amtrak Virginia Northeast Regional service (Trains 171 & 176) to and from Lynchburg, the Crescent (Trains 19 & 20) to and from New York and New Orleans via Lynchburg, the Cardinal (Trains 50 & 51) to and from Chicago and New York via Charlottesville, Va., and the Auto Train (Trains 52 & 53) to and from Sanford, Fla., and Lorton.

CSX has informed Amtrak of a track closure between Lorton and Alexandria, Va., due to flooding. As a result, Amtrak has canceled morning trains to and from Washington and Richmond/Newport News, Va., on Saturday, September 10.

Passengers with travel plans through this area later in the day on Saturday are urged to check train status using http://www.Amtrak.com/ , visiting http://www.Amtrak.com/alerts, calling 800-USA-RAIL.

Amtrak Service restored between Washington and Richmond/Newport News, Va., starting Sunday



September 10, 2011
6:00 p.m. EDT

All scheduled Amtrak service between Washington and Richmond/Newport News, Va., will resume on Sunday, September 11 after CSX reopened tracks that were closed due to flooding. In addition to Northeast Regional service, the Carolinian (New York - Charlotte, N.C.) and Palmetto (New York - Savannah, Ga.) will operate as scheduled.

Amtrak thanks passengers for their patience during this service interruption.
