NS Service Alert:

Winter Storm Service Advisory – February 10, 2014

Due to extreme weather conditions shipments moving across the Midwest and Northeast have been experiencing delays of 24 to 48 hours. In addition, Winter Storm Pax is expected to contribute to snow and ice conditions across the Southeast and it is anticipated that traffic moving via these routes may also experience delay. In locations where extreme temperatures are combined with snow or ice conditions, some local service may be curtailed. Operations and Service Support are working with customers to coordinate local operations that may be affected.

Winter Storm Service Advisory - Update

Feb 13, 2014

Severe weather conditions continue to adversely impact extensive portions of our rail network, especially in the Northeast. Low temperatures accompanied by ice and snow accumulations have increased service delays.

While our facilities remain open, we are curtailing some train operations due to crew and locomotive shortages as well as decreased gate activity.

Ayer, Baltimore, Bethlehem, Croxton, Erail, Greencastle, Harrisburg, Mechanicville, Morrisville, Rutherford, and Taylor continue to receive winter weather which should ease overnight.

Customers are strongly advised to review Department of Transportation information for updates regarding local road conditions. As conditions improve, customers are encouraged to pick-up available units from our terminals to alleviate congestion.

Atlanta - Inman Terminal Congestion

Feb 13, 2014

Due to the winter storm that impacted the Atlanta area the past two days, the Atlanta – Inman Facility is extremely congested. All available parking spaces are full, and we are not able to ground any inbound freight until the situation is alleviated.

As a result of the parking congestion, we are closing the ingate at Inman to all traffic effective immediately. Drivers will be allowed (and are strongly encouraged) to bobtail into the facility, or ingate with a bare chassis, in order to outgate loaded/empty traffic. All loaded or empty ingate traffic will be refused at the ingate. We will evaluate the situation this afternoon and may re-open for ingate traffic around 5:00pm. We will provide an update regarding facility operations later this afternoon.

We regret the inconvenience this may cause our customers and we are taking this action in an effort to return the terminal operations to normalcy as quickly as possible.
