NS Intermodal Service Alert:

Tropical Storm Nate

Oct 05, 2017

As Tropical Storm Nate develops in the Gulf of Mexico the City of New Orleans has activated their flood-protection plan. The flood-protection plan will prevent Norfolk Southern from operating trains to and from New Orleans. As such, effective 7:00am CDT Friday, October 6th, the ingate lane at New Orleans will close to all shipments.

The outgate lane at New Orleans will operate as published unless conditions warrant otherwise. All traffic currently moving to New Orleans will be held enroute until it is deemed safe for movement to destination. All shipments ingated at Norfolk Southern origin facilities, billed to New Orleans, will remain at the origin terminals and will not be loaded until the rail routes are deemed safe for movement. We will not be able to unload and return shipments once they have been loaded. We will continue to monitor the storm and provide updates as the storm progresses.

As a reminder, Norfolk Southern Intermodal provides 24/7 automated information services for shipment tracing, billing verification, and storage charges (including the Last Free Day) through our Touch-Trace voice response system at 1-800-497-2919. Customers and dray carriers can also utilize accessNS for information concerning their shipments.
