'Emergency! Someone just got hit!': Worker hit by train on CSX railroad tracks

 

A CSX employee died in a workplace accident on the train tracks in Roanoke Rapids, police said.

 

A railroad worker was killed on CSX train tracks in Roanoke Rapids after being hit by a construction train on Tuesday afternoon.

 

Roanoke Rapids police, who are investigating the fatal workplace accident, said the CSX employee died around 1:30 p.m. on the company's tracks near the 10th Street crossing.

NTSB to investigate CSX employee death in North Carolina (updated)

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate an incident today in which a CSX Transportation employee was struck and killed by moving equipment, according to an NTSB social media post.

NTSB releases preliminary report on CSX maintenance worker fatality

Feb. 13 accident in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., led to FRA safety alert

WASHINGTON — A CSX maintenance-of-way foreman was killed when he was struck by a ballast regulator while waiting for flaggers to arrive to protect a grade crossing, the National Transportation Safety Board said in the preliminary report issued Tuesday on an accident that occurred Feb. 13 in Roanoke Rapids, N.C.

 

The accident description confirms details in a Federal Railroad Administration safety alert issued after the incident [see “NTSB to investigate CSX employee death …,” Trains News Wire, Feb. 13, 2024]. The NTSB report says a motorist saw the regulator strike the foreman and alerted the flagging crew; the foreman was found deceased about 61 feet north of the crossing. The ballast regulator had reversed direction and struck the foreman who was standing in the gage of the track.
