Onida (SD) Watchman, 4/4/18:
Ringneck rail cars to be retrofit to meet specifications
Rail sidings at the Ringneck Energy ethanol plant site were full of U.S. DOT-111 tank cars last December. By mid-March, many of the cars had been shipped out to be converted to U.S. DOT-117R tank cars, leaving the sidings nearly empty.
“All of the cars that have been sitting here have been DOT-111 cars, which in 2023, they will not be allowed for ethanol purposes,” said Ringneck Energy CEO Walt Wendland.
According to Wendland, before Ringneck even starts operating, the cars are going back to be converted to DOT-117R cars in order to meet all of the latest standards.
