From Los Angeles, CA Downtown News, 5/26/08:

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority has narrowed down plans for its proposed Downtown Regional Connector to two options - a mostly street-level light rail line, or a subway.

From Los Angeles, CA Times, 10/16/08:

One of the more intriguing mass transit projects that has been talked about for years -- they usually require decades of talk before actually getting built -- is the downtown connector, also known as the regional connector. It's a line that would connect present and future light-rail lines, the idea being to eliminate time-munching transfers.

And this was the original intent of the Blue Line. The existing Gold Line was originally the Blue Line when it was being constructed. When it was realized that the Pasadana and Long Beach LRT lines would not be able to go through downtown as one, they changed the Pasadena line to the Gold Line. From what I've seen, once the downtown connector is in service, Pasadena-Long Beach would be one city pair, and East Los Angeles would be hooked up with Expo (one almost ready to open and the other under construction in its first phase). So you would have basically a north-south line and an east-west line.

From LA Weekly, 10/2/09:

U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye of Hawaii has sent a letter to the MTA regarding a pet project of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, "strongly" urging the transportation agency to "be responsive to the concerns and ideas of both residents and businesses located in Little Tokyo."

From Little Tokyo Unblogged:

Following the release of a statement by Senator Inouye at the last Little Tokyo Community Council meeting that reflected the multiple community concerns over the potential impact of Metro’s regional connector, and on the suggestion of the mangrove property developers, the LTCC members overwhelmingly approved a motion for Metro to consider adding a fifth option that would establish an underground station under the Gold Line at the Nikkei Center property.

From Los Angeles, CA Times, 11/22/09:

The community fears that construction, noise and hundreds of daily trains could ruin businesses and property values. But Metro has offered up an underground plan that seems to be easing concerns.

From Los Angeles, CA Downtown News, 4/16/10:

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - One of Downtown Los Angeles’ most anticipated projects is the Regional Connector, an approximately two-mile route that would tie together existing and future light rail lines. Yet despite the appetite for such infrastructure, questions remain over what form it will take, and community members continue to debate how much it should impact street life, especially in Little Tokyo.
