Denver RTD's 'R Line' more than half complete

Denver's Regional Transportation District (RTD) announced last week that the I-225 "R Line" light-rail project in Aurora, Colo., is now about 60 percent complete.

The project's contractor Kiewit Infrastructure Co. marked the progress with RTD and Aurora city officials on April 30.

The full story is here.

Again, the R line will be a suburb-to-suburb line that will not serve downtown Denver at all.  It will be an extension further into Aurora of the existing H line that now ends at Nine Mile. But it will take the southeastern connection where it meets the Southeast Line, and turn south with the E and F lines to the Lincoln terminus, and then the three will eventually be further extended south from there.

The Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) on Friday will begin tie-in work at the Nine Mile Station, which will connect the new R Line to the existing light-rail system.

Crews will integrate the overhead contact system with RTD's current system. They'll complete the work Oct. 25.

How new light rail in Aurora will make trip to DIA faster

When light rail is finished in Aurora this year, those in the east and south metro areas will have a quicker trip to the new airport line and can avoid going to downtown Denver.

New train, new dangers coming to Aurora

RTD's R-Line through Aurora, set to open this winter, takes a unique path through the city. That path is cause for concern when it comes to safety.

Aurora, CO Sentinel, 8/20/16:

‘R’ is for almost ready to roll light rail in Aurora

Residents are starting to see the train roll down the tracks before the Aurora “R” line opens this winter.

Since July, Regional Transportation District engineers have been testing the train on several segments of the Aurora “R” Line, the 10.5-mile Interstate 225 light rail system will connect the East Commuter Rail Line through Aurora to Nine Mile Station and metro Denver’s Southeast Corridor Light Rail.
