Schumer wants feds to move on crude oil train rules
Schumer is calling on a federal agency to expedite its review process for approving rules to transport crude oil by rail and wants a deadline to phase out "outdated" tank cars within two years.
en. Charles Schumer urged federal regulators on Wednesday to quickly advance tough rules that would make transporting crude oil by rail safer.
Speaking on a conference call with reporters, Schumer also called for the U.S. Department of Transportation to include a two-year phase-out of "severely outdated" tank cars that most commonly carry explosive Bakken crude oil and ethanol in its final regulations, which are due later this month.
"With the two year cap, we can be sure that things will move very quickly and within a few years, we can be sure that every car that carries volatile oil is safe," Schumer said.
