MBTA news release:

MBTA Customers Reminded to Stay Connected During Winter Weather

Posted on December 8, 2017

BOSTON — With snow showers forecasted this weekend, the MBTA has encouraged its customers to stay connected during winter weather by signing up for T-Alerts, following @MBTA and @MBTA_CR on Twitter, using the Transit app or the MBTA commuter rail app, and visiting the MBTA website to learn about service information.

Shuttle bus service replacement previously scheduled for this weekend on the Green Line D branch and the Red Line has been canceled. While regular weekend service is expected on all modes, the MBTA and Keolis closely monitor weather forecasts to assess expected and real-time conditions related to scheduled service and operations. Customers should stay as up-to-date as possible by checking all available communication channels, with bus passengers encouraged to check out mbta.com for snow routes as well as real-time maps and information regarding bus stop snow removal. Customers are also encouraged to exercise caution while on snow-covered or icy bus stop areas and outdoor station platforms.

Since the winter of 2015, the MBTA has upgraded track and signal infrastructure, invested in snow-fighting equipment, and stocked up on replacement parts for vehicles, making more than $101 million in investments in winter resiliency. Last winter, the Boston area saw 42 inches of snow, with the MBTA’s Storm Desk activated 7 times and the MBTA’s Emergency Operations Center activated 5 times. There were no shutdowns or closures in MBTA service, with snow-fighting equipment deployed and staffing levels of the Storm Desk increased as needed. Working closely with the MBTA, the Keolis Incident Command Center and Situation Room were activated during these storms as well.

The MBTA is committed to keeping its customers better informed by providing the most updated service information quickly, accurately, and when they need it.
