Someone sent me an e-mail whereby they perceived there was a mistake in the interary for Atlanta. In short, they thought Bankhead should be Buckhead. Both exist, and MARTA travels to or through them both. The job falls on me to explain the difference. Bankhead is a neighborhood to the west of downtown Atlanta. Interestingly, the area was named after its main highway, Bankhead Highway. The road has since been renamed Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway for a local civil rights leader, but the neighborhood did not follow suit. Bankhead is served by MARTA's Green Line, which is a very short 1-mile, 1-stop spur off the east-west Blue Line. It runs together with the Blue Line to various eastern turnaround points depending on the time of day. Buckhead is a district of the city of Atlanta, its third largest behind Downtown and Midtown. Buckhead is so large that it has 42 neighborhoods within it, and there have been movements to have it seceed from Atlanta to become its own city. Buckhead is a very busy industrial, entertainment, hotel, restaurant, and residential part of town. By measure of MARTA, it is just beyond where the Red and Gold Lines split, and for highway purposes it's in between I-75 and I-85 north of where they split. The main Buckhead stations for MARTA heavy rail are Buckhead on the Red Line, and Lenox on the Gold Line.
