So long as the Sunset Limited is a trip-weekly, there's not much incentive for AMTRAK to provide station services, especially since the train does not serve downtown Phoenix.  Hopefully, Arizona DoT's plan to start commuter rail between Tucson and Phoenix in October 2021 will come to fruition (or maybe sooner? ;) ).  That might boost patronage and enhance transportation options for Arizona's capital city.

Since Maricopa opened, they at first used an old dome rail car as the station, and then later switched to a modular "Am-Shack" type of facility that was moved from another city.  I am sure that the relatively recent presence of a Thruway connection between Maricopa and points in the Phoenix area (by the way the Thruway bus does NOT serve downtown Phoenix either -- only the airport, a shopping mall transit facility well northwest of the city, and downtown Tempe) should have helped ridership, as it's doubtful that Maricopa itself would be much of a destination.

Something is needed between Tucson and Phoenix, as even the bus options are very limited and expensive.

InMaricopa.com  5/28/20:

Uniformed agent will again greet travelers at Amtrak station

When Amtrak trains stop in Maricopa on their way to Los Angeles or New Orleans, riders will soon be greeted by a uniformed agent … again.
