Column in Seattle, WA Times, 7/19/16:

At last, Seattle loves its light rail

Nine years ago, I wrote a column predicting, unambiguously, Light rail: We will love it.

At that time we were stubbornly the last big American city served solely by buses. So I figured if we ever got some true rapid transit, speedy and efficient like our little brother Portland has, we would flock to it.

Definitely true, I am seeing it every day, and I start my journey to work at mid-day. This weekend will be the annual Seafair Hydroplane race and airshow on Lake Washington, and as a resident of the neighborhood where it is held, I admit LINK has helped with traffic. It's about a mile from Genesee Park to Columbia City Station, so the shuttle buses still handle the last mile, but loading could be quicker if Metro puts their newest buses, the 8000 series on the run, since the Shuttle bus is free, the third set of doors can help fill the bus faster.
