You would have to take METRA Train #505, leaving OTC at 2:40 PM. Assuming the trains are on time, changing at Bellwood would provide a 14 minute layover. A change at Berkeley would give you 8 minutes. Anything beyond that is too risky. The station before Bellwood is Melrose Park -- however do not change there, as only every other train stops there, so you would find yourself waving to us as we highball by you.

If I can catch the 140PM departure I could get off at wheaten. If I canŽt make that one IŽll just wait at the OTC for you people.

You can't. This is the Saturday schedule, and there's no 1:40 departure.

There is a new construction project involving Madison Street in Chicago, which one would use to walk between Chicago Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center. It's part of the Wacker Drive project, but the bridge over the Chicago River will be closed from early July through the rest of the summer. Steve W is going to check to make sure this won't affect us. I have a feeling that if the street is closed there may be LESS traffic, and we could even cross mid-block if the street at that point is closed to vehicular traffic.

The Chicago Department of Transportation will close Madison Street between Canal and Franklin Streets immediately following the July 5 morning rush hour. This closure will include the Madison Street Bridge over the Chicago River. This street closure is part of a multi-year project to rebuild Wacker Drive and adjoining streets. Pedestrians will not be able to cross the Chicago River via the Madison Street Bridge until later this year. Please use the Washington, Monroe and Adams Streets detours. Fliers detailing the closure will be distributed along Madison Street during the morning rush hour on Tuesday, July 5.

I just drove by and looked at it this morning. I walked over and verified that one could enter the north concourse platforms from Madison street. It will be easier to cross Madison, but traffic would be the same on canal.

Thanks, Steve, I had a feeling that was the case! :)

No time like the last minute to discuss fares!

CTA base fare is $2.25 . You can purchase a Transit Card for this amount, since we technically only have one entry into the system. If you will be entering the system any more times, adjust accordingly. If you plan to enter the system 3 or more times, a DayPass for $5.75 on your Transit Card would be a better value.

I am thinking to save time, somebody could put say $9 on one Transit Card, and then 4 people could enter. This would save some time, when our group arrives at the cramped Quincy station.

As for the METRA trip, the one way adult fare between Chicago's Ogilvie Transportation Center and Elburn is $6.50 each way. Your ticket should read Zone I (the letter I). (Reduced fare for seniors is $3.25 each way.) It would therefore be to your advantage to purchase the $7 Weekend Pass, which would reduce the cost of your round trip from $13 to $7. Looking at it another way, your return trip would end up costing you just 50 cents!

Although our attention has shifted to the Capitol Limited instead of the Cardinal, our departure from Chicago is not that much later. So we will still hold to the same priorities. City of New Orleans on time or early, we do CTA, lunch, then METRA. City of New Orleans a little late, we have longer lunch, then METRA. City of New Orleans very late, it's best to just have lunch since we might miss the last departure of the METRA train to Elburn that would safely put us back in Chicago well before some of us have to board our outbound trains.

As my current plans are, I'm thinking of going to a nearby Walgreens or similar to get a 1 Day Pass (they don't sell them in the machines anymore, the machines have 3 Day, 7 Day, and 7 Day CTA/Pace at my last check) since I'm going to finish out my "L" coverage before I come home, and I have a Saturday night hotel near O'Hare. Even if I don't bother to do that, I have a Chicago Card Plus, so I'm covered either way. :)

Technicalities suck and legal name changes are a mess after it happens.
