Weekend closures coming for Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel

May 22, 2015

Bus services diverted to surface streets, light rail service to turn at Stadium Station

The Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel (DSTT) will close the weekends of May 30-31 and June 6-7 while Sound Transit completes system upgrades in preparation for the early 2016 opening of the University Link light rail extension.

Link light rail service will operate as normal between Stadium Station and SeaTac/Airport Station during the weekend upgrades. Metro Transit routes that typically operate in the tunnel will be rerouted to surface streets during the weekend closures.

Sound Transit will run special three-car trains the entire day Sunday, May 31 to accommodate expected large crowds attending Mariners and Sounders FC events. A free shuttle bus (Route 97) will serve designated downtown bus stops and connect to regular Link service at Stadium and SODO Link stations.

Visit Metro Online for complete information about the routing and stops that will be served  by tunnel routes and by the Link shuttle bus Route 97 during the tunnel closure.

The 3.15-mile University Link light rail extension will serve new stations on Capitol Hill and at the University of Washington. The project, located entirely underground, is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2016, six to nine months ahead of its original construction schedule and about $150 million under budget.
