railway age
I was wondering, 12 miles, a little long for a streetcar, wouldn't that be more of a light rail line, or perhaps a hybrid option. Then again, rail modes are evolving so fast, the distinctions between them are getting blurred. Just like Siemens adapting the S70 for streetcar use.

M just used to most modern streetcar proposals being of short lengths. I have often suggested a few routes here that streetcars with a higher capacity could work as feeders for LINK, and the corridors are longer than 2-3 miles.

RIVERSIDE: Streetcar plan faces financial hurdle
Many questions surround the nearly $616 million streetcar line proposed in Riverside.
Can people be convinced to ride it? Will federal money be available to build it?
One thing is certain, though.
The city will continue to grow, and more people will mean more cars and more traffic congestion.

RIVERSIDE: Leaders hope streetcar will be ticket to thriving downtown
Business districts bustling with new restaurants, shops and apartments. Young adults meeting friends for dinner, drinks or a live show in a downtown that doesn’t die at 5 p.m.
And all of it anchored by a quiet, smooth-running streetcar connecting Riverside’s college and three universities with points of interest in between.

Besides being a useful way to get around Riverside, it can also serve as a feeder/circulator meeting Metrolink trains on the 91, Inland Empire-Orange County, and Riverside Lines, the future Perris Valley extension, and even Amtrak's Southwest Chief.
