Glenna and I are heading south on Jan 20. May be our next to last trip via AT. Hope to have better luck than Howard. Both on and off the train.

Standing room only at Lorton, even the spare wheel chairs were in use. A new method for loading (2:30). Handicaps load last. Much, much better that way.
One of the best trips we have made on Auto Train in spite of a very bad section of track close to Rocky Mount. Joel C. was as good as the best, Everything was "spot on" all the way. Even an UGLY backed potato turned out excellent when opened. The replacement for the previous choclate cake on the menu was not as Joel predicted. Dry. He even added 2 cartons of 2% milk to the meal order. While the milk was not needed, it turned out the best 2% milk I've ever had. The usual stop for fuel, crew and water and a short wait at Callahan, FL for a fast freight. Arrived at Sanford about 8:50. As we went out the door to the Vibe they announced 9 cars remaining. Traffic on I-95 was light and we were home (south of Miami) way before dark. Next train trip should be in March d.o.n. |

Glad that your trip was indeed much better than ours. We haven't at all given up on Amtrak in general or on the auto train in particular. We'll head back north at the end of March and I'm sure we'll book our trip south for next December shortly after returning home.
BTW, the weather has been fantastic !! |
