I am working on pages detailing rail transit costs in each city we are visiting.   Each agency has its own policies so it takes a while to understand the basics.

The first one completed is for Austin.

It will be posted in this thread when New Orleans and Houston are ready.

Fares page for Houston is complete.

New Orleans will be done after the day's itinerary within the city is revised.

Yes transit costs are not too bad,,,, but you'll give back what you saved to the hotels and restaurants.

A note about New Orleans RTA. If you are doing a single ride and need to make a transfer it's $0.25. You have to tell the operator that you need a transfer before you pay. One good thing about RTA is if you don't have exact change for a single ride, you can get "change" back on a fare card thats good for future use. So you can put in a $20 dollar bill and get get back a card for $18.75. I don't know of many agencies that do this, but I use this option often so I don't alway have to have a quarter on me. This probably won't effect most of us since you'll have a day pass anyway.
