I have eaten at the spaghetti factory in Portland a couple of times since the last railfest, and the quality seemed to have deteriorated.  Though I enjoy tradition, I am not sure we would have the same great experience we had last time.

I discovered the yard house which is centrally located and near Maxx stations.  It has a diverse menu and prices IMHO are not too high.  Though they might be a bit too much after a slight more expensive dinner in Seattle the night before.

I will post this link to the menu with prices, and then the yelp reviews.  http://www.yardhouse...enu-listing/eat

Here is the yelp review.  https://www.yelp.com...-house-portland

Steve, there is a Yardhouse in Orlando, although I have not eaten there.  However, my friends that have eaten there think it is excellent.

I found a couple of more restaurants in Portland that appear to be close to transit.

Deschutes Brewery, 210 NW 11th Avenue.

Here is the yelp review: http://www.yelp.com/...-house-portland

Henry's 12th Street Tavern, 10 NW 12th Avenue

If anyone is interested, I can do some more research to determine distance from transit.

FYI, I am ok with Yardhouse, but wanted to provide more options for us to ponder.

When I am home I can look at the MAX LRT & Portland Streetcar and see if the places named so far are near stations... or just how far a walk they may be.

I looked at a map for walking distances from Union Station and Embassy Suites.

Deschutes is .5 miles from Union Station and .6 miles from Embassy Suites downtown.

Henry's is .7 miles from Union Station and .5 miles from Embassy Suites downtown.

Both seem (I think) to be a block or 2 from streetcar (but I will let Kevin, the map genius, confirm)

Yardhouse is .8 miles from Union Station and .4 miles from Embassy Suites downtown.

It appears to be one block from a MAX lightrail station.

It becomes more important for those who do require light rail anyhow to get to/from their Portland hotels (for example my going to Doubletree which is in the Lloyd District east of the river).  One thing not settled yet is that we could, if we arrive into PDX on time on Thursday on Train 513, do one of the streetcar loops (clockwise or counterclockwise) which would save time for Friday,  but that would cost us another fare since it would not be under Friday's Day Pass.  Now if travel on MAX or Streetcar becomes required Thursday evening for getting to & from a restaurant, then we might as well get another Day Pass for that day and do one of the Streetcar loop rides anyhow.

This applies to me and mike and Kim as well. We are over by the convention center too. The day passes are not bad and a moonlight ride could hapen.

Sun goes down late in July, may be just late evening trip if the streetcar loop is done after dinner.  Also keep in mind that besides MAX light rail going over the Steel Bridge, the A & B Streetcar loops also run perpendicular to them in the Lloyd District and thus might take you from restaurant to area of your hotel.

That would be perfect.
