Going forward, we will not leave our initial meeting place for the day until the time set forth in advance of the Fest. Generally we try to move towards the platform about 10 minutes before the first train is due to leave. Despite pressure from those itching to get started, we must wait until the documented time so we don't leave anyone behind. Furthermore, we have to try to adhere as much as possible to the scheduled departure stations. While I realize that not everyone wishes to partake of all activities and we have different tastes for lunch and thus might split up, reassembling at the prescribed location in advance of the start time (even if it means backtracking or walking in extreme weather conditions) will ensure we don't leave without anyone. While we welcome walk-on's (people who were not expected but decide to ride trains with the group), if anyone knows in advance these people are considering joining us, it would be helpful for me to know, and beneficial to everyone so that a head count doesn't result in leaving without somebody. We must adhere to this, to prevent what happened in Atlanta and Memphis when we temporarily lost people. Everyone travels a distance from their home city to join us and have fun with the group, and it's not fair to them to be left behind if we leave early or make the decision without them present to begin travel at another location. And then once we do lose somebody, if we are in an underground station with no cell phone signals, it is difficult to communicate with that person to arrange a place we can reunite with them.

This is a good idea! Although I didn't seem to miss much when I missed the group in Atlanta. This also effected me last year when I was thinking about flying back to Seattle to rejoin the group in Vancouver. I'm glad I didn't because I would have missed the rides as I got an email saying they have finished many of the rides a day early.
