Brightline West secures right-of-way for Vegas high-speed rail route; line expected to be electrified

The missing link for Brightline West’s Las Vegas-to-Los Angeles high-speed rail service now appears to be in plain site.

Brightline West has secured right-of-way for a 49-mile connector route that starts at Victor Valley, Nev., moves through Cajon Pass, and links to a Metrolink station in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. From there, passengers could take a Metrolink train to Union Station in Los Angeles.

The Federal Railroad Administration also is conducting an environmental review of the route, which is expected to be complete in November.

I would think that this route would require tunneling under the mountains of Cajon pass.  That would mitigate some of the wind issues.

Brightline, Caltrans to sign pact for Apple Valley to Rancho Cucamonga rail line

The California Department of Transportation and Brightline West plan to enter a right-of-way use agreement for a portion of the high-speed rail project along Interstate 15 between Apple Valley and Rancho Cucamonga via the Cajon Pass.

The agreement is designed to advance the development of the privately owned and operated electrified rail project that will connect Las Vegas to Southern California.

The issuance of a notice of intent on Friday kicked off a 15-day public comment period for the proposed lease agreement between Caltrans and Brightline West.

THE environmental review and permitting process has been completed for the 78.4km Victor Valley - Rancho Cucamonga section of the proposed Brightline West high-speed line between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

The US Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has found that there would be no significant environmental impact from building this section of the high-speed line, which as with 96% of the Brightline West alignment would run within the median strip of the Interstate highway 15.
