Big changes to the Airport Line basically involve disconnecting it from the through service that has been operating to the West Trenton & Warminster Lines.  That means that Airport trains generally will turn at Temple University (with some selected trips going onward to Jenkintown), while West Trenton & Warminster trains would then go no further than 30th Street Station.  What this will do is increase downtown train movements, with more trains in the Center City Tunnel and as far as Jenkintown when those through trains still run.

Changes to Airport Line Schedule

New Timetables Effective December 13, 2015

Effective with the December 13, 2015 Regional Rail schedule change, Airport Line Trains will operate on a new timetable meant to enhance service reliability. Weekday Trains will no longer continue through service to Warminster and West Trenton Line.

Customers should consult the printed timetables with the December 13, 2015 effective date for complete service information, as all Regional Rail schedules will change.

Timetables will be available the week of December 7 at Regional Rail Stations, SEPTA Customer Service locations, and available to download on this page. Please check this page regularly for updates as additional service information for Warminster, West Trenton, and other Regional Rail Lines will be added.

SEPTA news release:

New SEPTA Regional Rail Line Schedules Go Into Effect Sunday, Dec. 13

Changes to Airport Line Timetable Designed to Enhance Service Reliability for All Rail Rider

PHILADELPHIA, PA (December 9, 2015) - New SEPTA Regional Rail Line schedules will go into effect on Sunday, Dec. 13. The new schedules, designed to enhance service reliability, will affect all Regional Rail Lines, with the most noticeable changes occurring on the Airport, Warminster and West Trenton Lines.
Schedules are available for download at http://www.septa.org.

The Airport Line is currently linked to the Authority's West Trenton and Warminster Regional Rail Lines, two very long service lines. Service problems SEPTA experiences between West Trenton or Warminster and Philadelphia impact the Airport Line, which can cascade and cause delays to trains that are normally
running on time.

Beginning Dec. 13, the Airport Line will no longer continue through service to Warminster or West Trenton
on weekdays. By splitting from the branched lines and making a number of other timing changes, the Authority will increase service reliability across the board for Regional Rail customers.

Highlights of the new Airport Regional Rail Line schedule include:

  • Weekday trains will depart a few minutes ahead of current scheduled train times.
  • Weekday trains scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., and from 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.,
  • will only operate between Temple University and Airport stations. Early morning and late night service will remain the same.
  • Weekday trains scheduled between 9:25 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and after 7:00 p.m., will only operate between Jenkintown-Wyncote and Airport Stations.
  • Warminster and West Trenton Line Trains which previously traveled to the Airport on weekdays will no longer operate direct service to University City and the Airport. West Trenton or Warminster Line customers traveling to University City Station can transfer to an Airport, Media/Elwyn or Wilmington/Newark line train at Jefferson or Suburban Station to complete their trips.

Customers should check http://www.septa.org, or look for signage posted at stations for additional service and boarding information. To view changes to their train lines and download new schedules, passengers can visit www.septa.org/schedules/upcoming-rail.html. Schedules on all Regional Rail Lines will change beginning Sunday, Dec. 13. Customers can also stay connectef by following their Regional Rail Lines on Twitter: www.septa.org/alert/twitter.

Reader feedback in Philadelphia, PA Inquirer, 12/21/15:

SEPTA, get me to the airport

As a frequent rider on SEPTA commuter trains, I was surprised and angered by last week's schedule changes ("SEPTA revises runs for rail punctuality," Dec. 10). I have never experienced great delays on the Warminster and West Trenton Lines and have been extremely appreciative of the direct service to Philadelphia International Airport.
