Pact Killed by 7 Votes; New Walkout Feared
NEW YORK, Jan. 20 -- The city's 33,000 transit workers rejected a proposed three-year contract by seven votes Friday, raising fears of another crippling strike.
The Transport Workers Union defeated the contract 11,234 to 11,227, even after its president, Roger Toussaint, urged members to ratify the agreement.
