ProgressiveRailroading.com, 3/3:

Amtrak migrates service to temporary terminal in San Francisco

Amtrak service has moved to the Transbay Temporary Terminal in San Francisco, establishing the first rail connection at the future Transbay Transit Center.

The addition of Amtrak Thruway connector bus service foreshadows the center’s eventual status as the northern terminus for the California's high-speed rail system and Caltrain service, Transbay Joint Powers Authority officials said in a press release. The temporary terminal currently serves passengers connecting to and from Amtrak’s San Joaquin, Capitol Corridor, Coast Starlight and California Zephyr lines.

San Francisco Chronicle, 9/26/18:

2nd crack found at SF Transbay Transit Center — to stay closed through next week

San Francisco’s new Transbay Transit Center will remain closed at least through the end of next week, transportation officials said Wednesday, after a second cracked steel beam was discovered during an overnight safety inspection.

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco County Transportation Authority will vote on whether to suspend $9.7 million in funding for the Transbay Transit Center, while the chairman also wants to replace the independent government agency that has managed the project since 2001, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The $2.2 billion building was shuttered in September, after workers found fissures in two steel beams that support the bus deck and rooftop park. Supervisors are raising doubts about whether the Transbay Joint Powers Authority — the agency in charge of the center and rail extension — is the appropriate body to oversee the next phase.

If approved, the resolution would withhold funding until the City Controller evaluates the Joint Powers Authority’s management and delivery of the center, and Transportation Authority staff review alternative forms of governance for the downtown extension of Caltrain.
