A vintage rail company that hauls hundreds of thousands of tourists every year along the route of the historic Klondike Gold Rush has suspended operations while it investigates a derailment that injured nine people.

The derailment occurred during the Wednesday afternoon run of the White Pass & Yukon Route tourist train, which goes from Skagway, Alaska, into Canada.

Train derailment caused by switch problem: White Pass and Yukon Route
19 people suffered minor injuries in derailment of tourist train last week


The failure of metal bar in a switch on the rail line was what caused a derailment on the White Pass and Yukon Route train in Alaska a week ago, says the company's president.
