UP Customer Alert, 7/30:

Heavy Rains Cause Tucumcari Subdivision Washout

To Our Customers,

Abnormally heavy rains over a short time period have caused a major washout on our Tucumcari Subdivision between Tucumcari, N.M., and Dalhart, Texas. The washout, which is in a remote location on our main line between Kansas City and El Paso is 12 feet deep and involves a bridge structure. Large amounts of fill material are being transported to the site, and contractors and Union Pacific personnel are on site to assist with the repair and recovery effort.

We anticipate that completing repairs and returning the line to service will take 36 to 48 hours. We are rerouting trains to minimize delays. Customers with traffic moving in this corridor should expect 12- to 24-hour delays.

KRQE-TV, Albuquerque, NM, 7/30:

Torrential rains damage NM train tracks

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The rainfall this month has been too much for parts of the state. It’s ripped apart roads and left a piece of railroad track suspended mid-air in eastern New Mexico.

Rain totals for this month have already surpassed the normal rainfall and there are still a couple days to go. Sky News 13 video from Wednesday afternoon over Bull Canyon Creek shows just how bad the rains have damaged some areas around the state.

Parts of New Mexico’s dry landscape couldn’t handle all of this rain. A Union Pacific train track along I-40 was ripped apart near Montoya between Santa Rosa and Tucumcari.

Continue w/ 2 video reports. (I had to "full screen" the videos to get a viewable image.)
