Walk-up Checked Bicycle Service Begins Aboard Carolinian Trains 79 and 80



Effective August 3, 2015

 

Starting August 3, 2015, Amtrak will offer Walk-up Checked Bicycle Service aboard Carolinian Trains 79 and 80 at the following stations: Raleigh, Cary, Durham, Burlington, Greensboro, High Point, Salisbury, Kannapolis and Charlotte.

 

Reservations Required: Walk-up bicycles are free of charge, but reservations are required. Passenger must have a travel document (ticket) for the bicycle and a baggage tag. Baggage tags can be obtained at the Amtrak ticket office. Passengers boarding at unstaffed stations can obtain a bike tag from the conductor.

 

Eligible Bicycles: Only standard size bikes will be permitted. Largeseat/saddle bags must be removed from the bike. These items canbe checked or carried on the train. They will be counted as achecked or carry-on item.

 

Arrive Early: Passenger checking bicycles must arrive 30 minutes prior to train departure to allow sufficient time to obtain a ticket and baggage tag, and get the bike to the baggage car.


Loading Bicycles:
  • Passenger must be physically capable of lifting their bike up to a station employee standing on a baggage cart or to the train crew at the baggage door.

  • Passenger will not be permitted in the baggage car. Amtrak personnel will store and secure the bike in the bike racks.
