A look back: the 2009 SEPTA strike
Here's a look back at scenes from November 2009, when Transport Workers Union Local 234 representing 5,000 SEPTA train operators, bus drivers and mechanics went on strike over differences in wages and benefits.

Continue.SEPTA's biggest union doesn't want to strike, but will it?
WHEN THE LAST of SEPTA's contracts with its unionized workers expires on Sunday, the clock starts ticking on the time bomb of a crippling transit strike.
Willie Brown, president of Transport Workers Union Local 234, which represents 5,000 transit workers, told the Daily News yesterday that he does not want a strike.
But this is the same Willie Brown who suddenly called one in 2009, leaving hundreds of thousands of SEPTA riders stranded for six days.
Brown told the Daily News yesterday that he won't accept SEPTA's initial offer of a five-year contract with no raises during 2014 and 2015, a 6 percent raise spread over the next three years, increased employee contributions to health care and no pension plan for new hires.

Septa Makes ‘Final Offer’ As Philadelphia Hopes To Avert Mass Transit Strike
As we begin a new week, there is no Septa mass transit strike. But no new contract talks have been scheduled, either.

Ross, I think there is some confusion here between two different divisions of SEPTA. The most recent news items relate to the Regional Rail division (commuter rail), not the City Transit Division (bus, subway, trolley). As such, those items related to Regional Rail should be in the Commuter Rail forum. IIRC the transit strike was averted earlier this Spring. Perhaps one of our members in or around Philly can clarify ??
Kevin,
Perhaps this topic should be changed to "SEPTA Labor Issues."
A transit strike was "averted" but the issues are not settled. The "suburban" issues were concurrently in mediation, which has failed.
All of the unions (BLET, IBEW, TWU and others) involved are now "coordinating" their negotiating efforts:
(Post #9; 5/13)The IBEW and BLET have met with the leadership of TWU Local 234. Local 234 is also confronting SEPTA’s unwillingness to engage in good faith bargaining for new labor agreements covering city and suburban transit workers. We will continue to coordinate our negotiating efforts with Local 234 and other SEPTA transit unions . . .
This could conceivably result in a near total public transportation stoppage in Philadelphia!
